I probably have unfairly stereotyped Arab countries, but I was surprised at the degree of frankness about sexual matters we saw in Beirut. This large billboard about female sexual frustration was right across from the gate to the American University of Beirut in downtown Beirut.
And (as shown below) at the checkout counter at the local grocery chain, in addition to the usual candy and batteries, there was a prominent display of various types of condoms — which I’ve never seen in the US, where such items are tucked away discreetly in the back somewhere.
