The Lebanese Civil War went from 1975 to1990. The demarcation line or green line, went through Martyrs’ Square. This line divided Beirut between the east and west. The east being mostly Christian and the west mainly Muslim. Although later in the civil war, it also divided Sunni and Shia Muslims. Head in any direction and you’ll still see many bombed out buildings and some in this photo as well. It’s a struggle for many due to the civil war and other wars. It’s definitely a dicey place to travel, but a fascinating and unique place to see.
