I spent a week in Beirut during the troubles. It broke my heart to see the damage caused by the civil war up to that point. The Holiday Inn was the object of a three day, three night battle from room to room with countless deaths. A line from Hotel California comes to mind: "you can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave"
The wonderful people of Beirut have rebuilt a lot of their city and I wish them peace.
