IMAGE INFO
– Viewpoint is looking north-east.
– The site has been changed massively from what can be seen here in late 1942. Much of the ruins lying on the ground have since been cleared away & painstakingly re-sited during reconstruction of the walls & some pillars (also including rebuilding the destroyed altar in the foreground) as evidenced in this huge modern panorama (allow load time) – upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/Pano_Baalbek_…

HISTORICAL INFO
– One of Baalbek’s old names was "Heliopolis in Syria".
– Extensive history here – www.livius.org/articles/place/heliopolis-baalbek/?

SOURCE INFO
– Original image was captured by my late father-in-law, Driver Tom Beazley of the Australian Army 2/4 Anti Malaria Control Unit, 9th Division, 2nd Australian Imperial Force, using a folding Kodak 6-20 Brownie camera with 120 roll film, while he was on extended leave.

PROCESS INFO
– Digitized using a Canon Canoscan 8800F scanner.
– Originally restored from the very badly grained, scratched & faded original, using Adobe Photoshop Creative Studio 8.0
– Latest version re-processed using AI enlargement, colourization & enhancement software.
